This painting evolved because a client from Virginia requested that I paint Scottish Terriers on the beach which inspired me to do so. I had never painted dogs before and had already started this Sunset with a small amount of beach. The owner of the dogs liked the sunset and the idea of the dogs being a very small part of the overall composition. She wanted people to first see the sunset on the beach, then notice the dogs, i.e., "Oh, look there are Scottie dogs, just like yours, on the beach."
This was also one of the hardest paintings I have ever had to let go... made me reconsider painting as just a hobby rather than as a profession and question even selling my originals to strangers. ... I LOVED this painting and the dimension present in an oil painting is impossible to reproduce in a print, so once it was gone from my sight, I could never see it again. This one truly took a part of me... It has been eight (8) months (7/7/2022) and I am finally ready to try to paint again and letting paintings go... Dollars are unable to compensate for what I give in a lot of my paintings.
