2020 COMMISSION -- The Yellow House is a restored historic mansion and restaurant and gift shop on Main Street in Clayton, North Carolina. Originally called the Wagner House. John Wesley Massey, a Southern Railway station master, built the house in 1912 on land his wife Lula inherited from her family, which owned Thurston Freight Co. There's lots of stories about the house, including a tale about Union soldiers camping there during the Civil War.
Commissioned to do one (1) watercolor, I eventually completed three (3) versions and the owners bought all three (3). This is the first early spring version with vibrant red flowers lining the walkway, which I did to show the client for her initial approval and discussion of what she wanted for the final version... which did change to a more colorful version like this one, after I did the other two. Hand-painted on 12 X 16 Arches Cold-pressed watercolor paper using Windsor and Newton professional watercolor paints.

My creativity has led me to paint and design in many mediums and formats, from graphic, to architectural, landscape, painting, and technical writing. The most rewarding aspect of my life long career is that I have the opportunity to bring joy into the lives of others with my painting and design skills. It's the highest compliment to have my artwork included in your homes and in your lives.Thankful to the many private and public collectors of my original paintings, I am now able to make many of those paintings available to reproduce as various types of usable artwork on products such as mugs, notebooks, face masks, shower curtains, wall art, and more. To see my portfolio of over 100 original oil and watercolor paintings that are in public...
