Description

Watercolor painting accented with gouache. Painted intuitively from my heart's deeply felt memories of the Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach. Native wild sea oats can be seen along the Outer Banks and Cape Hattaras National Seashore, Bogue Inlet, Masonboro Inlet in Wilmington, North Carolina. Because they are endangered, it is a crime to cut them or deliberately damage them. There are active replenishment plantings all along the North Carolina Outer Banks and in Wilmington to try to protect the sand dunes, which in turn protect the fragile sandy shores of those areas.

For many years, I took an annual drive up the Outer Banks of North Carolina--when I would be in between semesters at NC State University as an adult student--where I would see the sea oats bloom in mid to late August. The Sea Oats are an amazing sight to see as they are in this painting with the stormy sky above and sea gulls flying.
